It’s hard to believe that Christmas has come and gone. Now that we’ve gotten our fill of cookies, turkey, ham, and all the other delicious goodies - it’s time to set those New Year’s resolutions. If you’re like millions of others around the world, one of your top goals will be to work out and get in shape this year. Lucky for you – pet owners are statistically more likely to be fit and healthy! Below we’ve listed our four favorite ways to work out with our pups:
1. Explore some local hiking trails
One of the best ways to get into shape is to swim a couple laps in the pool. Despite it being winter, there are indoor pools that cater to both people and (yes!) pets too! Not only is swimming fun, it’s really gentle on joints and ideal for rehabilitation after an injury. Once the weather warms up, take your pup to the local lake, ocean, or river. Just be sure to stay safe and always keep an eye on your pet (as well as the environmental conditions)!
3. Get outside and play fetch
A pup’s favorite pastime, this is a great way to bond with your dog and get in some exercise for the both of you! Whether you toss around a tennis ball, stick or your pup’s favorite dog toy, give your arm a little workout with a nice game of fetch and stretch your legs with a fun round of keep-way J.
4. Go for a nice long stroll
There’s no excuse for this one – taking your pup out for a nice long stroll is not only relaxing, it’s good for you! Take the time to unwind from a long day at work and give your pup a chance to stretch his legs! Raining? Get your raincoat and boots on! Too dark out? Turn on your flashlight and invest in a light up or reflective collar. Snowing? Put Fido in a comfy coat and maybe even some snow boots (depending on how sensitive his paws are). No matter what the condition, it’s always ideal for a walk.
