There are over 11,000 dog donors registered with the Pet Blood Bank UK but with demand rising for more donations (due, in part, to the incredibly sophisticated treatments available to pet owners) the charity, alongwith Argos Pet Insurance, is calling on more doggies to register. Could your dog help to save a life?
Just like us humans, all dogs have different blood types; they are either DEA 1 positive or DEA negative. Only 30% of dogs are DEA negative, plus these dogs can only receive DEA negative blood, meaning there is even more of a demand for this blood-type.
So, can you or your doggie help? If you have one of the following types of pets and your pet is fit and healthy, aged one to eight and weighs over 25kg, then your fluffy friend who is sitting beside you right now could be about to play a life-saving role:
-
Airedale Terriers
-
Boxers
-
Dobermans
-
Greyhounds
-
German Shepherds
-
Lurchers
-
Pointers
-
Flat-Coated Retrievers
-
Weimaraners
A blood donation takes only around 10 minutes and your pet will be monitored throughout the entire process. Afterwards, they’ll even be given a ‘I’m a lifesaver’ bandana!
