5 Ways to Prevent Pet Stains in Your Home

Pets add a wonderful source of companionship, stress relief, and light hearted moments to any household. Pet stains, however, are an unpleasant reality for many pet owners. Read on for some great tips about preventing pet stains in your home.

Regular Schedule

Create a regular bathroom schedule for your pet. Be sure that all family members are aware of this schedule and help with it. Post it in a visible high traffic area of the home. Remember to be realistic, patient, and diligent with puppies. Young dogs need to learn how to control their bladders, and often need to go outside every hour or every other hour.

Containment

If you are experiencing stains because you aren't immediately finding areas of elimination, it is time to contain your pet to a smaller number of rooms. Consider crating your pet when you are not home, or using gates or doors to contain them to an area of one or two rooms. It might be advisable to make these rooms without carpet.

Be Attentive

People thrive when they are given attention, and so do animals. Be observant about normal behavior, as well as signs that your animal needs to go to the bathroom. React right away if you notice your pet whimpering or making circling or frantic movements. Be firm when accidents happen, but praise your pet heartily when the animal does correct bathroom behavior.

Absorb first

If your pet does urinate or even vomit in the home, be sure to soak up the liquid first. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing until the majority of the liquid matter is absorbed. Otherwise, you are simply rubbing the urine or vomit around in your carpet and allowing the scent to linger. This same principle applies to diarrhea accidents.

Hire a Carpet Cleaner

Sometimes it is just worth it to hire the services of a professional carpet cleaner like those from Grimebusters Ltd. This is especially true if your home has pet stains that were not immediately spotted and dealt with. The more time that passes, the harder it is to remove pet stains and odors. Professional carpet cleaners have high grade products and tools that can efficiently deal with enzymes in your carpet or upholstery. If pets can't sniff prior areas of elimination, they will be less likely to use those same spots in the future.

Love and enjoy your furry friends and use the above practical tips to keep your pet friendly life running smoothly.
